FCTA Reacts to Alleged Demolition of Lobito Plaza
In response to a circulating TikTok video suggesting the recent demolition of a plaza on Lobito Crescent, Wuse II, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has refuted the claims, labeling them as a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation.
The FCTA clarified that the video, allegedly depicting the demolition, was recorded in 2021 and emphasized that the building in question was not demolished. Anthony Ogunleye, Director of Press for the Office of the FCT Minister, signed a statement revealing that instead of demolition, the Department of Development Control identified a usage infraction.
The statement read, “Contrary to the claims made in the video, the building was not brought down. Rather, the contravening portion was removed to ensure compliance with regulations.”
To further substantiate their stance, the FCTA provided a current photo of the building, affirming its standing status. The administration expressed its commitment to enforcing regulations while prioritizing the well-being and safety of residents.
Strongly condemning the deliberate spread of false information, the statement emphasized the counterproductive nature of attaching ethnic coloration to the videos. The FCTA urged the promoters of such misinformation to cease their actions, emphasizing their negative impact on society.
The statement concluded by reassuring residents of the FCTA’s commitment to transparent communication and responsible governance, urging the public to verify information from reliable sources before dissemination.
