Enugu APC Group Endorses Enukwu, Opposes Nwoye for Deputy National Chairman South
An All Progressives Congress (APC) bloc in Enugu State has endorsed Emma Enukwu for the position of Deputy National Chairman (South) while rejecting the candidacy of Ben Nwoye, citing concerns over leadership conduct and party loyalty.
The position of the Enugu APC Progressive Movement, led by Chairman Mazi Ejimofor Nwoye and Women Leader Ujunwa Isi Okafor, was communicated in separate statements issued in Enugu. The group urged party delegates and the National Working Committee to assess the records of both aspirants before deciding on the leadership role within the All Progressives Congress.
In its endorsement of Enukwu, the group pointed to his long involvement in party structures, tracing his political background to the defunct ANPP. It described him as having sustained experience in grassroots organization and internal party administration over several years.
The group also referenced Enukwu’s continued alignment with the APC during the 2023 general elections, arguing that his consistency demonstrated reliability in periods when some party figures distanced themselves from the party.
According to the statement, the Deputy National Chairman (South) role requires a leader capable of managing regional party interests and representing Southern constituencies at the national level. The group stated that Enukwu’s experience and disposition align with those expectations.
In a separate position, the group opposed Nwoye’s bid for the same office. It accused him of misconduct during his tenure in Enugu State party leadership, including allegations of mismanagement of party resources and actions it described as contrary to party directives during the 2023 elections.
The group argued that elevating Nwoye to a senior national position would undermine internal discipline within the party. It added that such a move could weaken enforcement of party rules if individuals accused of acting against the party are rewarded with leadership roles.
The statement also questioned the party’s internal accountability framework, urging stakeholders to consider whether adherence to party supremacy remains meaningful if past conduct is not taken into account in leadership selection.
The group concluded by calling on APC delegates to prioritize candidates with what it described as consistent records of loyalty and organizational commitment when voting for the Deputy National Chairman (South) position.
