Electoral Act: Why We Are Not Making Noise Like the Opposition — APC Spokesperson
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended its measured response to the newly amended Electoral Act, insisting it is respecting the authority of the National Assembly rather than joining the opposition in vocal criticism.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said the party sees the law as the result of collective legislative efforts and that suggestions of bias in favor of the APC are unfounded.
“The APC isn’t the National Assembly. We’re also bound by the Act’s mandatory e-registration for parties,” Morka said. “It’s incorrect to suggest we have an advantage or are manipulating the process. The National Assembly represents all elected officials across parties. Our majority does not mean the Act reflects only APC interests.”
He added that the law, having been passed by the National Assembly and signed by the president, is now binding. “To attribute the Electoral Act solely to the APC would be unfair and nonsensical,” Morka said.
The APC’s stance comes in contrast to opposition parties, which have raised strong objections to the amendments. Morka emphasized that the party sees compliance with the law as essential, highlighting that any attempts to politicize the Act’s provisions would be misplaced.
