Eight Opposition Parties Meet in Kaduna to Strategize for 2027 Elections

Eight opposition parties gathered in Kaduna for the ADC Democracy Summit Kaduna 2024, an event organized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to strengthen their structures and strategies in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The summit, attended by major political entities including the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Social Democratic Party (SDP), KOWA, Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), aimed to bolster grassroots support and enhance political awareness among citizens.

Lawal Nalado, the summit chairman, highlighted the necessity of addressing the difficulties faced by Nigerians and the importance of making informed decisions ahead of the elections. Nalado dismissed merger rumors, instead criticizing the current administration for worsening national issues.

Echoing these concerns, PRP National Chairman Falalu Bello underscored the need for effective voter mobilization and the selection of credible candidates. He pointed out that resource limitations, internal democracy deficiencies, and ruling party interference are significant obstacles for opposition groups.

The IPAC National Chairman emphasized accountability and transparency, stressing the opposition’s role in ensuring the government remains responsible and delivers democratic dividends.

Ahmed Tujjani, chairman of ADC and IPAC Kaduna State, clarified that the summit’s focus was on addressing socioeconomic and political challenges with pragmatic solutions. He stressed the importance of early engagement and citizen involvement in the electoral process, stating that the event aimed to foster dialogue and collaboration among opposition parties rather than pursuing mergers or coalitions.
