Egbema Youths to Tinubu: “Reduce Fuel Price to N200”
The Egbema Youth Political Forum (EYPF) has issued a formal appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to heed the demands of protesting Nigerians by reducing the price of fuel to N200. This call to action comes amidst widespread demonstrations against the high cost of living and fuel prices.
The EYPF praised the demonstrators for their perseverance and their exercise of constitutional rights, as outlined in Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). In a statement released yesterday in Warri, Delta State, EYPF leaders Ebigbagha Baidi (Chairman), Karina Yoroki (Secretary), Ebiterigha Ejemi (Spokesman), and Odimiyentimi Eyenmi (Legal Adviser) emphasized the urgency of their plea.
“We join other aggrieved Nigerians in appealing to the Federal Government to review and reduce the price of premium motor spirit (PMS), commonly known as fuel, to N200. By doing so, other commodity prices will decrease, making them affordable for Nigerians. Additionally, we urge a review of economic policies contributing to the widespread hardship,” the statement read.
The group stressed the importance of President Tinubu addressing the legitimate concerns of the masses to alleviate the current economic strain. They highlighted the widespread hunger and hardship caused by exorbitant commodity and fuel prices.
Criticizing President Tinubu’s recent speech on August 4, 2024, the EYPF stated that it failed to address the core issues raised by the protesters. Instead, they felt the speech implied a threat, urging Nigerians to adapt to the current situation.
The EYPF also called on President Tinubu to instruct security personnel to act professionally and respect human rights when dealing with peaceful protesters. They reminded the President and security forces that their primary duty is to protect lives and property, not to harm or destroy them.
