The Edo All Progressives Congress (APC) Media Campaign Council has said Governor Godwin Obaseki is under pressure from members of the Edo state PDP to throw open the state’s treasury ahead of September 19 gubernatorial election in the state.
Reacting to claims by the Deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shaibu that former Governor Adams Oshiomhole wanted a third term by proxy, the Chairman of the Media Campaign Council of the APC, Mr. John Maiyaki, said “his allegations and childish tantrums are the only tactics his illiterate mind could conceive in the quest to use media publications as an advantage in ongoing Edo PDP civil war over campaign funds.”
“The Edo PDP is enmeshed in another fresh controversy as the rank and file of the party has increased pressure on the embattled Governor to once again throw open the State treasury. This is after the 15 billion naira payment made to the PDP tax-collectors to obtain its ticket.
“Mr Philip Shaibu is trying to gain a head start in this civil war by going on a media overdrive and mindlessly attacking anyone in sight, not minding the legal consequence because of the momentary immunity he enjoys.
“Infantile abuse, baseless allegations, childish tantrums, and other such puerile antics are the only things the illiterate mind of Philip Shaibu can conceive in his quest to gain an advantage in the PDP civil war on who gets the fattest share of the Obaseki loot.
“The likes of Philip Shaibu and other leaders of the PDP are aware that Mr Obaseki will reach the end of the road come September 19. Therefore, all of them are eager to get their corrupt “severance package” now that they still can. No PDP ward leader is campaigning for Obaseki. They are all reportedly waiting for a promised payment of 10 million naira each before lifting a finger because even they are convinced the Governor is going to lose by a wide margin.
“In a recent meeting, Philip Shaibu openly berated Obaseki over his delay to release the funds and when the SSG, Osarodion Ogie tried to butt in, he was lambasted by the Deputy Governor who now considers everyone a threat in the loot sharing civil war.
“Philip Shaibu has gone amok. He is out of control. He is a drowning man gasping for breath. His greed has brought him to a dead-end. Realizing that there is no more room for movement or navigation, he has now transformed into a bull in a china shop, charging about, with no respite or direction.
“Members of the public are urged to disregard his comments. What we are witnessing with Mr. Philip Shaibu is a televised meltdown of a disturbed man who has seen the glimpse of his own disgraceful political end” he said.
