Edo LP Suspends National Chairman Julius Abure for Anti-Party Activities

In a significant development within the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, the National Chairman, has been suspended by Ward 3 in Arue-Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State. The suspension, attributed to alleged high-handedness and anti-party activities, was confirmed by the state executive committee.

A suspension letter dated May 14, 2024, and a ratification letter dated May 15, 2024, were both upheld during a state executive committee meeting on Friday night in Benin. The letters indicated that Abure’s suspension is immediate, advising him to cease representing himself as a party member.

The suspension letter was signed by Ward Chairman Thompson Ehiguese and Ward Secretary Stanley Usiomoh. The ratification letter, forwarded to the State Executive Committee by the Local Government Chairman Patrick Onogbeni and LG Secretary Ehikioya Eromosele, emphasized the gravity of the accusations against Abure.

The ratification letter stated, “Here forwarded to you and for your consideration is the ratification of the suspension of Julius Abure from the membership of Ward 3, Arue, Uromi, Esan North-East LGA, Edo State. The LGA Executive met on May 15, 2024, about noon, to consider the matters presented on the suspension and accordingly found them weighty and the suspension ratified and upheld.”

State Executive Committee Chairman Kelly Ogbaloi endorsed the decisions made by the ward and local government committee. The meeting was notably charged with leaders and members chanting, “Abure must go!” reflecting the strong sentiments within the party ranks.

The State Executive Committee reviewed the suspension letters and the related issues, subsequently ratifying Abure’s suspension from the party.
