“How Campaign Funds Were Controlled By Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Ituah And We Followed Them Sheepishly” – Julius Abure
In a new development surrounding the Labour Party’s internal crisis, embattled national chairman Julius Abure has addressed accusations of financial mismanagement of the party’s 2023 campaign funds. In a video statement, Abure claimed that the funds were managed by key figures including Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, and Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, with the party playing no direct role.
“We followed them sheepishly… whoever they trusted to administer the resources, we didn’t bother ourselves with it,” Abure stated, refuting claims that the party mishandled campaign donations. He added that donations were directed to specific accounts controlled by Yesufu and Ighodalo, while they also oversaw payments to polling unit agents.
The comments come after Labour Party stakeholders appointed former finance minister Senator Nenadi Usman to lead a Caretaker Committee tasked with resolving the party’s leadership crisis. Abure emphasized that the party did not engage in any financial transactions related to the election, calling the accusations against him “mischievous.”
