Edo Governorship: Davido Rallies Support for PDP’s Asue Ighodalo
Nigerian music sensation, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has thrown his support behind Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the upcoming Edo governorship election set for September 21.
On Sunday evening, the award-winning singer took to his social media platforms to endorse Ighodalo, encouraging young voters to come out in large numbers to back the PDP candidate. Davido highlighted a personal connection, noting that Ighodalo hails from the same hometown as his late mother, which further strengthened his endorsement. The post featured a photo of Ighodalo, with Davido captioning it, “The next governor of my mother’s homeland.”
With millions of social media followers, Davido’s endorsement is expected to resonate strongly with the youth, potentially swaying opinions in favor of the PDP candidate.
In recent weeks, other public figures have also voiced their support for Ighodalo. Celebrities such as Banky W, actress Adesua Etomi, Etinosa, and Nollywood actor-producer Charles Onojie have publicly declared their backing. Key political figures, including former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-governors Liyel Imoke and Donald Duke, have also thrown their weight behind Ighodalo.
The combination of high-profile endorsements and political backing is expected to strengthen the PDP’s prospects as the election draws near, positioning Ighodalo as a strong contender amid stiff competition from opposition candidates.
