Edo Deputy Governor, LP Guber Candidate Clash Over Party Secretariat Invasion

Tensions escalated in Edo State as the deputy governor, Godwin Omobayo, and the Labour Party’s (LP) gubernatorial candidate, Olumide Akpata, engaged in a war of words following the recent invasion of the state secretariat of the LP in Benin, the state capital.

Akpata, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), directly accused Omobayo of orchestrating the invasion and assault on innocent LP members and staff. He alleged collusion between Omobayo and the suspended Youth Leader of the LP, Kenneth Omusi, in the malicious act aimed at undermining the LP’s activities.

In response, Omobayo refuted the allegations, labeling them as unfounded and a malicious attempt to tarnish his image. He emphasized his commitment to principles of equity, justice, and good governance, stating that his decision to accept the position of deputy governor under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was based on a vision for the betterment of Edo State.

The LP candidate vowed to prosecute those involved in the invasion, asserting that the LP remains organized and ready to contest the upcoming governorship election. He warned against any interference in the party’s affairs, affirming their determination to prevail despite the challenges.
