“Each Time We Make a Law and the Opposition Frowns, I Get Excited” — Akpabio
Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Nigerian Senate, said Saturday that opposition criticism signals the Senate is making effective laws.
Speaking during a reception for First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu in Uyo, Akpabio described dissent from political rivals as confirmation that legislation is on the right track.
“Each time we make a law and the opposition frowns, I get excited that I’ve made the right law,” he said.
He also responded to opposition threats to boycott the 2027 presidential election, linking such threats to unreadiness rather than principle. Referring to debates over the Amended Electoral Act, Akpabio added, “If you are ready, you won’t boycott.”
