“Don’t You See How Young I Am?” — Patience Jonathan Reflects on Life After Aso Villa
Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, recently shared her reflections on life post-presidency, expressing that she feels rejuvenated since leaving the Aso Villa.
Speaking at an event marking the 60th anniversary of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), she remarked, “The stress of Nigeria is too much. If you call me now for the villa, I won’t go there. I won’t. Don’t you see how young I am?”
Mrs. Jonathan discussed the immense pressures of political life, asserting that her departure from the villa has contributed positively to her well-being. She emphasized gratitude for the opportunity to serve but stressed that she has no desire to return.
Reflecting on the 2015 election, where her husband peacefully conceded to President Muhammadu Buhari, she clarified her stance, saying, “I did not encourage Goodluck to cling to power. We don’t need anybody to die. We’re brothers and sisters. We are one country.”
Her comments highlight a commitment to peace and national unity, reinforcing her belief in the importance of valuing life over political power.
