“I Won’t Return to Aso Rock, My Support Is for Tinubu” – Patience Jonathan
Former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has publicly declared that she has no intention of returning to Aso Rock come 2027, instead pledging her full support to First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the next general elections. Speaking at the Women Icon Leader of the Year award ceremony hosted by Accolade Dynamics Limited in Abuja on Saturday night, the former First Lady emphasized her loyalty and admiration for the Tinubu family, particularly praising Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the President’s daughter and Iyaloja-General of Nigeria.
In her remarks, Jonathan lauded Tinubu-Ojo for her efforts in empowering women and expressed confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu. She assured those present that her allegiance lies firmly with the current administration, stating, “All the way, we are with you. No shaking. We will follow. Direct us, and we will follow. Because there is only one president at a time. We don’t have two presidents.”
Jonathan also highlighted her longstanding relationship with Senator Oluremi Tinubu, recalling their collaboration during her time as deputy governor’s wife and governor’s wife. She spoke warmly about their shared political journey, particularly during the 2011 presidential campaign, noting that the Tinubus had shown unwavering support to her and her husband, former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Reaffirming her stance, she declared, “I stand by my friend. My friend is great. I told her I would campaign with her. I’m not denying her. I’m not running. I’m not going back to the villa. If you call me, I will not go.” With this, Patience Jonathan made it clear that she will be campaigning for Tinubu in 2027, standing firmly behind her belief in political succession and loyalty.
