“Don’t Waste Your Vote in 2027, Support Tinubu,” — Gov Soludo Tells Ndigbo
Governor Chukwuma Soludo has called on the Igbo electorate to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, stating that the region should not “waste” its votes on alternative candidates.
Soludo made the remarks on Tuesday during his inauguration for a second term in office at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka. He and his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, were administered the oath of office and allegiance by the Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, at 11:47 a.m. and 11:52 a.m., respectively.
The ceremony drew prominent political figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Addressing a crowd that included members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), opposition parties, and business leaders, Soludo said the Igbo political future remains important but suggested that the timing for broader ambitions, such as producing a president of Igbo extraction, is not immediate.
He added that the region has confidence in Tinubu’s administration, citing what he described as positive changes affecting the South-East.
The governor also called for unity within the state, urging political opponents to set aside differences and collaborate on governance. He emphasized that political contests in the state have ended and attention should shift to development.
During the event, attention was drawn to a moment in which the governor acknowledged several dignitaries but did not mention the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe, who was seated nearby. However, he recognized the chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka.
In his remarks, Vice President Shettima praised Soludo’s leadership, describing him as a public servant guided by ideas and integrity. He said the governor’s re-election reflected public confidence in his administration.
Shettima also reaffirmed the federal government’s willingness to work with Anambra State, noting that governance should prioritize citizens’ welfare over partisan considerations. He added that the current phase of leadership in the state is focused on responsibility rather than continuity.
He further urged residents to support the administration’s plan to position Anambra as a key economic and investment destination in Nigeria.
