Deal with Any Security Official Caught Collaborating with Bandits, Northern Elders Tell Tinubu’s Government
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has called on the federal government to take decisive action against individuals found collaborating with bandits within the country’s security apparatus. The NEF, represented by its Director-General, Prof. Doknan DD Sheni, expressed deep concern over the escalating incidents of kidnappings and violence in Nigeria.
The NEF emphasized the urgent need for a collaborative effort between the federal, state, and local governments to establish a robust and comprehensive security system. The statement highlighted the various security challenges faced by Nigerians, particularly in Northern Nigeria, which include religious insurgencies, banditry, conflicts between herders and farmers, and violent kidnappings.
The NEF’s statement read: “Nigerians in general and the people of Northern Nigeria, in particular, have over the years, seen their lives and businesses cruelly ravaged by mounting insecurity. Given the overwhelming evidence of individuals within the existing security system collaborating with these criminal elements, there is an urgent need for the government to identify and punish those found complicit in aiding and abetting bandits.”
The NEF acknowledged the recent successful rescue of some kidnapped Gusau girls by the Nigerian military following orders from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, they stressed their unwavering commitment to securing the release of all those still held in captivity and restoring peace and stability to Northern Nigeria and the nation as a whole.
Expressing sympathy for the victims and their families, the NEF urged all levels of government to work together to establish a more comprehensive and enduring security system. This approach would involve activating local vigilance, empowering communities, and ensuring fair and effective service delivery to all citizens.
As the nation grapples with security challenges, the Northern Elders Forum’s call for swift action against bandit collaborators underscores the urgency of addressing this critical issue to ensure the safety and well-being of all Nigerians.
