CUPP Alleges Conspiracy to Silence Spokesperson Ugochinyere Imo

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has expressed outrage over what it describes as a plot to silence its spokesperson and House of Representatives member, Hon. Ugochinyere Imo. The coalition alleges that Hon. Ugochinyere is being targeted with fabricated charges, including treason and judicial corruption, in an effort to undermine his credibility and stifle dissent.

In a statement, CUPP characterized the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. The coalition accused its opponents of orchestrating a campaign to defame Hon. Ugochinyere, leveraging accusations of bribery, criminal defamation, treason, and other alleged offenses. According to CUPP, these tactics are designed to pressure him into ceasing his outspoken criticism of political and leadership malpractice, particularly those linked to the pro-Wike faction within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

At a press conference in Abuja, CUPP leaders, including Secretary-General High Chief Peter Ameh and co-spokesperson Comrade Mark Adebayo, warned of severe consequences if any harm comes to Hon. Ugochinyere. They accused the plotters of attempting to frame him in retaliation for his investigations into land racketeering in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). CUPP maintains that the allegations against him aim to halt further exposure of what it calls reckless land allocations and property seizures.

The coalition emphasized that this alleged campaign to silence Hon. Ugochinyere is part of a broader effort to destabilize Rivers State, weaken the PDP, and suppress opposition voices. CUPP called for an immediate investigation into the actions of security agencies and their alleged sponsors, urging civil society organizations, legal practitioners, and international observers to closely monitor the situation.

In response to the perceived threat, CUPP announced plans to mobilize nationwide peaceful protests to highlight what it describes as the misuse of state institutions for political purposes. The coalition stressed that democracy depends on transparency and accountability, warning that it will not tolerate attempts to undermine these principles.

CUPP called on Nigerians who value justice and democracy to join in resisting oppression and intimidation. The coalition pointed to Hon. Ugochinyere’s past resilience in overcoming similar accusations, including charges of treason, terrorism, and criminal defamation, which CUPP said were fabricated to derail his political career. Despite those challenges, he won his election and has continued to speak truth to power.

The coalition concluded by reaffirming its commitment to defending democracy, vowing to fight the alleged plot against its spokesperson in the courts, in public discourse, and through peaceful protests.
