Cross River: Hunter Kills Woman He Thought Was a Monkey
A tragic incident unfolded in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State after a hunter allegedly shot and killed a woman he mistook for a monkey.
The incident occurred on Monday, October 20, 2025, in the Basam Osokom community. According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the hunter, identified as Otu Goodness Kanang, fired at what he believed to be a monkey perched on a tree. Moments later, he reportedly heard a human cry and discovered that he had accidentally shot a woman.
The victim, identified simply as Victoria, was confirmed dead at the scene. Her other names have yet to be verified.
Local youths assisted detectives in retrieving the body, which was taken to the residence of a community chief in Bansam for further action.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody as investigations continue. They added that calm has been restored to the area and the situation remains under control.
