Court Summons Five Individuals for Defamation of Mercy Chinwo, Husband

Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, husband of renowned gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, has taken legal action against five individuals for alleged criminal defamation. Through his legal representatives led by Pelumi Olajengbesi Esq., he filed a Direct Criminal Complaint, resulting in a summons issued by the Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.

The defendants – Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot, and Samuel Agozie – are accused of intentionally spreading injurious falsehoods, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking aimed at damaging the reputation of Mercy Chinwo and her husband.

Mercy Chinwo’s husband emphasized that the alleged defamation was orchestrated through the deliberate circulation of damaging content on social media platforms.

The summoned individuals are expected to appear before the court on April 23, 2024.

Earlier, gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey also took legal action against individuals who falsely accused him of being the father of Mercy Chinwo’s child. His lawyers submitted a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, alleging criminal defamation and cyberstalking against four social media users, including Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, Terrence Ekot, and DJ Spoiltkid.

The accusations surfaced on social media, suggesting a resemblance between Bassey and Mercy Chinwo’s newborn son, insinuating paternity. Bassey’s legal team highlighted the serious implications of such false claims, stressing the damage to his reputation and personal life.

In their petition, Bassey’s lawyers cited violations of Sections 373 and 375 of the Criminal Code Act, along with Section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, asserting that the social media posts amounted to character assassination.

The petition urged law enforcement to investigate the matter promptly, apprehend the suspects, and ensure justice is served, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding individuals’ reputations and deterring such harmful actions in the future.
