Court Orders Arrest of Mercy Chinwo’s Manager Over Alleged $345,000 Fraud

A Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an arrest warrant for Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, over allegations of financial mismanagement involving $345,000. The order was granted on Thursday by Justice Alexander Owoeye following an ex parte motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

During the court proceedings, EFCC counsel Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari informed the judge that the commission had filed an application under the 1999 Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, seeking Onyedikachukwu’s arrest. She argued that the manager had failed to appear for questioning and urged the court to issue a warrant compelling his attendance. She further stated that if he remained untraceable, the EFCC would publicly declare him wanted.

The case stems from a petition filed by Chinwo, who accused her manager of collecting royalties from her digital platforms and events without proper disclosure. According to an affidavit submitted by the EFCC, Onyedikachukwu allegedly diverted approximately $345,000 meant for Chinwo’s earnings. The commission also stated that multiple attempts to apprehend him had failed, necessitating the court’s intervention.

Following the hearing, Justice Owoeye approved the EFCC’s request and scheduled January 24 for Onyedikachukwu’s arraignment.
