Chaos in Awka: UNIZIK Student Dies After Drug-Fueled Leap from Three-Storey Lodge

A male student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has died after reportedly consuming hard drugs and jumping from a three-storey building on Thursday evening, June 5, 2025.

The tragic incident occurred at about 8:00 PM at a student lodge near Royal Kitchen Junction in Ifite-Awka, close to the university’s main gate. Residents in the area said they heard a loud thud and rushed out to find the young man lying critically injured in a pool of blood.

The deceased, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of his family, was a tenant in the building. When residents checked his room, they discovered his roommate in an incoherent state, allegedly under the influence of the same substances both had reportedly taken earlier.

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, the student was confirmed dead. His roommate is currently in police custody and will be questioned once he stabilizes.

Authorities are working to reach the deceased’s family and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
