Chaos Erupts in PDP Reps Caucus Meeting as Vote of Confidence in Damagun Fails

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus meeting in the House of Representatives descended into chaos as lawmakers clashed over the leadership of the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun. The meeting, convened by House minority leader Hon. Kingsley Chinda, aimed to prepare for the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party.

However, the agenda to pass a vote of confidence in Damagun, reportedly backed by lawmakers aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, was thwarted. Ikenga Ugochinyere, stood firm in their demand for Damagun’s resignation and the appointment of a North-central representative as acting chairman.

They demanded adherence to the party’s constitution and denounced what they perceived as undue influence from external political forces.

A spokesperson for the Opposition Lawmakers Coalition reiterated their stance, emphasizing the need for immediate reforms within the PDP. They criticized the current leadership for alleged collaboration with the APC and vowed to resist any attempts to compromise the party’s integrity.

An anonymous member of the coalition revealed that the attempt to pass a vote of confidence in Damagun failed during the meeting, signaling deep divisions within the party. The lawmaker reaffirmed their commitment to upholding party principles and ensuring transparent leadership transitions.
