Cabal in Tinubu’s Government More Dangerous Than Buhari’s, Says Dalung
Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has raised concerns over the influence of a cabal operating within President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Dalung described this group as more powerful and dangerous than the cabal that existed during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.
Dalung alleged that Tinubu’s cabal is made up of highly educated and ambitious individuals with a deep understanding of power dynamics. He argued that this makes them more effective at manipulating governance and controlling access to the president, creating a dangerous precedent in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“They are educated and have a sound knowledge of what power is,” he stated. “Their capacity to manipulate power, stifle information, and control access to the president makes them more dangerous than any cabal in the history of this country.”
Contrasting this with Buhari’s administration, Dalung described Buhari’s cabal as less sophisticated, comprised of individuals with limited experience in politics and governance. While their motives were parochial, he claimed their lack of strategic depth mitigated their overall influence.
“Of course, President Muhammadu Buhari’s government had a cabal,” Dalung remarked. “But they were people who were not quite informed, who had little experience in politics, public administration, and governance. Their activities were limited to their narrow understanding of power relations and self-interest.”
Dalung criticized the persistent denial of the existence of cabals in Nigerian governance, calling it a disservice to future generations. He described these groups as dangerous political entities that misuse power and pursue ulterior motives, often at odds with the popular manifesto that brought them to power.
Assessing the current administration, Dalung referenced Chapter 2 of the Nigerian Constitution, which emphasizes the government’s responsibility to ensure the welfare of its citizens. He questioned whether Tinubu’s government was fulfilling this mandate, pointing out widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians.
“Are Nigerians rejoicing over the policies of this government? Certainly not,” he said. “The common people are frustrated and not speaking well of the government or the country itself.”
Dalung warned that the influence of Tinubu’s cabal could obstruct effective governance, isolate the president, and exacerbate the challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians.
