Boko Haram Strikes Nigerian Army Base in Borno, Kills Three Soldiers, Seizes Gun Trucks

In a devastating attack on Sunday, Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists stormed a Nigerian Army base in Isige town, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, killing three soldiers and seizing two military gun trucks.

According to sources, the insurgents engaged security forces in a prolonged assault, during which they razed several buildings and destroyed a military vehicle before making away with the gun trucks. Reinforcements arrived from a nearby unit, but by then, the terrorists had fled the scene.

Among those killed were a Staff Sergeant and two private soldiers. However, the Nigerian Army has yet to release their identities as their families have not been informed.

This latest attack follows a similar assault a few weeks ago on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Damboa Local Government Area, where an undisclosed number of soldiers were killed, and several remain missing. Reports indicated that the 25 Taskforce Brigade suffered heavy casualties during that raid, with at least seven bodies recovered so far. ISWAP later claimed responsibility, releasing images showing its fighters attacking the military camp.

Since the death of Boko Haram factional leader Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has strengthened its influence, particularly in areas around Lake Chad. The group has absorbed hundreds of former Boko Haram fighters, further bolstering its ranks.

Despite repeated claims by the Nigerian Army that insurgency in the region has been largely suppressed, Boko Haram and ISWAP continue to launch deadly attacks, causing significant loss of life and displacement. Over the past decade, the insurgency has claimed more than 100,000 lives and displaced millions, particularly in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states.
