Boko Haram Kills Army Captain in Borno Attack
In a deadly overnight assault on Izge community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, Boko Haram terrorists gunned down a Nigerian Army captain and a soldier in the early hours of Wednesday. The attack occurred around 1 a.m., according to the Emir of Gwoza, HRH Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, who confirmed the incident.
The Emir stated that the insurgents launched the surprise attack but met stiff resistance from troops, Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), local hunters, vigilantes, and residents. In the ensuing gunfight, three terrorists were reportedly killed, and several weapons along with over ten motorcycles were recovered from the fleeing attackers.
“May Allah grant the departed souls Jannatul Firdaus. Our gallant men are still in the bush, sacrificing their lives to maintain peace,” the Emir said, commending the security forces for their resilience. He also expressed gratitude to Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for logistical support and urged the federal government to strengthen the military with advanced technological equipment.
This attack is part of a renewed wave of violence by Boko Haram across the North East. On Saturday, the 27 Task Force Brigade in Buni Yadi, Gujba LGA of Yobe State, also came under fire, resulting in the death of at least four soldiers and the destruction of military equipment. The assault followed closely on the heels of a meeting by the North East Governors Forum in Damaturu, where regional leaders endorsed a multifaceted strategy to counter insurgency.
Buni Yadi, approximately 65 kilometers from the Yobe State capital, is the hometown of Governor Mai Mala Buni. These incidents come just weeks after President Bola Tinubu ordered service chiefs to end the killings and restore peace in the area.
