Bobrisky Case: Two Lagos Correctional Officers Suspended

Two senior officers at the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre in Lagos have been suspended by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board. The suspension follows allegations linked to social media claims involving popular Nigerian influencer Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky.

The controversy erupted after a voice note by Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, surfaced online. In the recording, Bobrisky alleged that following his conviction and sentencing for the abuse of naira notes in April, he served his six-month sentence in a private apartment, allegedly arranged by his godfather and the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

In response to these allegations, the Board suspended two key officers at Kirikiri, Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, both Deputy Controllers of Corrections. The suspension was confirmed in a memo signed by Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Board.

The memo stated:

“Following the viral video on social media regarding alleged infractions by Nigerian Correctional Service officers concerning Mr. Idris Okuneye (Bobrisky), the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board has suspended the following Senior Officers:

Michael Anugwa, DCC, In-Charge of MSCC, Kiri-kiri, Lagos State

Sikiru Adekunle, DCC, In-Charge of MSCC, Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.”

In a related development, the Board also suspended Ogbule Obinna, an officer at the MSCC in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly escorting an inmate out of the facility. Additionally, DCC Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, from the Kuje MSCC in Abuja, was suspended for allegedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate.

Ahmed clarified that the suspensions are part of an ongoing investigation, promising that the findings will be made public once the probe is completed.
