Biafra Heroes Day: Police Mobilize Against IPOB Sit-At-Home Order in Anambra, Imo; Deploy Operatives to Schools, Others

In anticipation of Biafra Heroes Day on May 30, the Anambra State Police Command has taken extensive measures to counter the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) sit-at-home order. This directive from IPOB calls for a day of remembrance for those who lost their lives during the Nigerian Civil War (1967-70).

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations Department), alongside a dedicated team, has spearheaded the deployment of security personnel to various schools throughout Anambra State. This initiative, named the “Operatives of Schools Protection Squad,” is tasked with maintaining law and order.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, stated, “The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Nnaghe Itam, has supplemented the existing joint security force—comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defence, and other agencies—to prevent any illegal sit-at-home enforcement by criminal elements.”

In particular, security efforts are being ramped up to safeguard students participating in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination scheduled for May 30. This initiative follows a directive from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, focusing on protecting educational institutions and their infrastructure.

The police have also urged residents to report any security issues through the hotline 07039194332 or via the ‘npf rescue me app’, available on both Android and iOS.

Similarly, the Imo State Police Command, led by CP Aboki Danjuma, has announced the deployment of a multifaceted security team across the state. This team includes personnel from the police, military, civil defence, road safety, immigration, and fire service. Imo residents have been encouraged to continue their daily activities and disregard IPOB’s sit-at-home call.

These actions underscore the authorities’ commitment to ensuring safety and normalcy during the Biafra Heroes Day commemorations.
