Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign council, Dino Malaye, has said if the five aggrieved governors of the party refuse to support the candidacy of the party’s presidential candidate, their political careers will end.
There had been reports on how the aggrieved governors working under the banner of G-5 struck a deal with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in London.
The G-5 is made up of Governor Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo) Samuel Ortom (Benue) State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).
The five aggrieved governors want the national chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu to resign.
During a chat with Arise TV, Melaye said the aggrieved governors have no justification for their withdrawal of support for Atiku, adding that supporting another candidate other than their party’s will mark their political suicide.
He said: “They (the G-5 governors) have no reason whatsoever to say they’re not going to support the candidate of their party. But I’ve made the statement that if they fail to support the presidential candidate of their party, and they themselves are running elections, then they should be ready to celebrate their political obituaries.
“Every part of this country including their various States, candidates and party faithful, even APC members have decided that they’re going to vote the winning team, and that is the Atiku-Okowa ticket.
“About three of them are interested in going to the Senate, and one of them wants to return as governor under the PDP. So I don’t know what diabolic means they will use to dump the presidential candidate of their party and then advocate for another candidate outside their party. That will be a new trend in politics globally.
“So I advise that they don’t go that way, because if they do, I want to say politically, they will be like a dying horse doing the last kick.”
