Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa, Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), has died. The former Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba and Nasarawa States passed away in Abuja on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, after a brief illness.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Hardawa’s passing as a profound tragedy for the state and the nation. In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor extended condolences on behalf of his family, government, and the people of Bauchi State.
The governor praised Hardawa as a distinguished statesman and an accomplished public servant who made significant contributions to democratic development in Nigeria. He highlighted Hardawa’s integrity, diligence, and fairness throughout his career, particularly during his tenure as Resident Electoral Commissioner and later as BASIEC Chairman, where he was instrumental in promoting transparent and credible electoral processes at the grassroots level.
Governor Mohammed also described him as a man of wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership whose experience and service would be deeply missed. He extended sympathies to Hardawa’s family, the BASIEC team, associates, and the communities of Hardawa and the Misau Emirate Councils.
He concluded with prayers for Allah to forgive Hardawa’s shortcomings, grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and bring comfort to his loved ones in this time of grief.
