Bauchi Emirate Revokes Senator’s Traditional Title for ‘Insulting’ Governor Bala Mohammed
The Bauchi Emirate Council has stripped Senator Shehu Buba Umar of his traditional title, ‘Mandarin Bauchi,’ in response to his recent criticism of Governor Bala Mohammed. The council’s decision, announced in a letter dated August 14, 2024, comes after Senator Umar accused the governor of diverting palliative items provided by the APC-led federal government.
Senator Umar, representing Bauchi South in the National Assembly, alleged that essential supplies such as rice, corn, and fertilizer intended to alleviate economic hardship were sold by the state government rather than being distributed to the needy. His comments were made in reaction to Governor Mohammed’s criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies.
The Emirate Council’s decision followed a meeting on Wednesday, where the senator’s conduct was reviewed. The council stated that Umar’s actions were inconsistent with the values and traditions of the Bauchi Emirate, leading to the revocation of his traditional title.
