Bala Mohammed, Allies Set for Expected Defection to ADC on Thursday
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed is expected to formally align with the African Democratic Congress African Democratic Congress on Thursday, alongside a group of his political associates.
He signaled the move on Tuesday during a meeting at the Government House in Bauchi with visiting party figures, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal. The delegation was part of ongoing engagements ahead of a possible political realignment.
Mohammed said the decision follows months of internal tension within the Peoples Democratic Party Peoples Democratic Party, which has been affected by leadership disputes since late 2025. He described sustained reconciliation efforts that, according to him, have not resolved the divisions.
He noted that different options were reviewed by committees set up at both national and state levels, including a possible move to the All Progressives Congress. However, he said those discussions did not yield a viable pathway.
The governor indicated that consultations have narrowed toward the ADC, which he described as the most practical option among those considered. He added that discussions are still ongoing and no final commitment has been concluded.
According to him, the invitation was extended by ADC leadership, including former Senate President David Mark, following wider consultations with stakeholders involved in the talks.
He said a final position will be communicated after further engagement expected to conclude on Thursday in Abuja, stressing the need to maintain alignment among supporters and political associates before any formal declaration.
Mohammed also said the process is being handled carefully to avoid disruption within his existing political network, noting that consultations are continuing across different levels of the PDP structure.
He added that political decisions at this stage must reflect both internal consensus and broader engagement with stakeholders, particularly given his responsibilities at state and national levels.
While describing the ADC as a current focal point of discussions, he maintained that the final decision remains pending until consultations are completed.
He also emphasized that electoral success depends on engagement at the grassroots level rather than party structure alone, adding that his camp remains focused on preparing for that process regardless of platform.
A formal announcement is expected once discussions conclude later in the week.
