“Notorious minister, APC agents planning Abuja protest to destabilise our party” — ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it has uncovered what it describes as a coordinated attempt to stage a protest in Abuja aimed at discrediting and destabilising the party.

In a statement shared on Wednesday via X, the party’s spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi alleged that the plan is linked to actors within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following recent political developments involving former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Abdullahi said the party had earlier raised concerns about alleged attempts to influence the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against the ADC. He claimed those efforts did not succeed, prompting what he described as a shift in strategy.

According to him, intelligence available to the party indicates that a street demonstration is being organised in Abuja, with claims that it will be presented as a spontaneous protest by dissatisfied ADC members. He further alleged that the mobilisation is being financed by a senior government official, though he did not provide evidence or name the individual directly.

The ADC spokesperson said the planned demonstration would centre on demands targeting former Senate President David Mark, whom he claimed is being falsely portrayed in internal party disputes.

He also alleged that the intent of the organisers is to create pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise a leadership structure that, according to him, is no longer valid within the party.

The ADC maintained that it remains focused on internal organisation and lawful political engagement. Abdullahi said the party would resist what it considers external interference through legal means.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene if individuals within the government are involved in actions targeting the party.

The All Progressives Congress All Progressives Congress has not issued a public response to the allegations at the time of filing this report.

Abuja Abuja is expected to be the location of the planned protest, which the ADC says it is monitoring closely.
