The Nigeria Democratic Congress has announced a set of internal reforms aimed at strengthening party discipline, tightening financial oversight, and reinforcing its authority over affiliated structures.

The resolutions were contained in a statement issued after the party’s second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director.

The party reiterated its position that it is being developed as a structured political institution rather than a platform centered on individual influence or temporary political arrangements.

“The NDC is being built as an institution, not a personality cult, political movement, or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be used and discarded,” the statement read.

It stressed that elected officials on the party’s platform must work in close coordination with party structures in shaping governance decisions, except in matters relating to personal staff appointments.

“The party remains supreme, and members are expected to align their personal interests and agendas with those of the party,” it added.

The NEC also ruled that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organisations linked to the party must operate strictly under its supervision and not function independently of its structure.

“All affiliated groups and NGOs shall operate under the guidance and control of the party and must not function in parallel with, or independently of, the party structure,” the statement said.

As part of the reforms, the party approved the creation of a comprehensive Code of Conduct for its officials and candidates. A committee chaired by the National Legal Adviser has been tasked with drafting the framework and enforcement guidelines.

The NEC also established a National Reconciliation Committee to address internal grievances and promote unity among members.

On governance and finance, the party introduced stricter accountability rules for party officials and candidates, requiring full disclosure of campaign-related funds and contributions at all levels of the party structure.

“There must be strict accountability for all funding received. Monies sourced by candidates at all levels, and contributions made by candidates to campaign accounts, must be fully disclosed to the party at the appropriate levels,” the statement noted.

It further directed that all campaign funds must pass through designated party accounts, including presidential and governorship campaign accounts where applicable.

According to the NEC, the measures are intended to deepen institutional discipline, improve transparency, and ensure long-term stability within the party’s structure.
