Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga says police have arrested the man behind a fake audio recording attributed to President Bola Tinubu.

In a post on X, Onanuga identified the suspect as Ifechukwu Dennis, who was picked up in Benin City by an Inspector-General of Police special team.

“The IGP crack team has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis who originated the fake voice that he passed on to his gullible targets as President Tinubu’s voice. Dennis was arrested in Benin,” Onanuga wrote, adding that an official police statement will follow.

The case stems from a viral clip that combined a manipulated audio and video package falsely presented as remarks from the President.

Initial reactions linked parts of the material to social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse (VDM), but further clarification indicates the entire content, including references to VDM, was fabricated within the same doctored recording.

Investigations are now focused on the origin and distribution of the synthetic media, with authorities confirming that the audio was engineered to appear authentic before circulating online.

Police say further details will be released as the investigation continues.
