Fourteen lifeless bodies, including those of senior officers, were unearthed by soldiers of the joint task force led by Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army, in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Some of the corpses bore signs of extreme brutality, with reports indicating beheadings and the removal of stomachs and hearts.
The tragic scene unfolded at the NDDC jetty in the coastal Delta community, where the bodies of the commanding officer and two majors were found floating along the river bank, while others were discovered on land.
Following this heinous incident, a wide-ranging security operation has been implemented, with the entire communities in Bomadi and Ughelli South local government areas cordoned off by operatives of the 6 Division Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, and overseen by the 63 Brigade in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
In response to the gravity of the situation, the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has swiftly ordered a comprehensive investigation into the tragic killings of the four senior officers and twelve soldiers.
