Army Confirms Soldiers, CJTF Killed in Ambush, Debunks Report of Commander’s Capture
The Nigerian Army has denied reports that a brigade commander was abducted during an ambush in Borno State, stating that the senior officer successfully led his men back to base after the encounter.
According to a statement from the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade were returning from a routine patrol around Wajiroko in Damboa Local Government Area when insurgents opened heavy fire on them near the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.
The patrol team, led by Brigadier General M. Uba and supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), reportedly repelled the attack with superior firepower, forcing the insurgents to retreat.
The Army confirmed that two soldiers and two CJTF members were killed during the clash. It described them as brave personnel who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation. Condolences were extended to their families and colleagues.
The statement also dismissed circulating claims that the brigade commander had been abducted, calling the reports false and urging the public to disregard them.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, praised the troops for their resilience and courage while operating in one of the country’s most challenging conflict zones, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to ongoing security operations in the region.
