APC Stakeholders Reject Nomination of LP, PDP Members to Tertiary Institution Boards
The Abia State All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders Forum (AASF) has voiced strong opposition to the nomination of members from the Labour Party (LP) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for appointments to various governing boards and councils of the nation’s tertiary institutions.
In a protest letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, the forum expressed its discontent, stating that aside from former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Henry Ikoh, and APC State Secretary, Chijioke Ikpo, the other nominees were affiliated with the PDP.
The letter, signed by Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, the former minority leader of the Abia State House of Assembly and convener of the forum, along with other current and former lawmakers and APC chieftains, urged President Tinubu to withdraw the non-APC nominees. The letter was also sent to several high-ranking officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
The APC members described the inclusion of non-party members as a typographical error, emphasizing that retaining these nominations would undermine party loyalty and political engagement. They highlighted that these nominees had actively opposed APC efforts during the 2023 election campaigns by damaging billboards and other campaign materials, thus questioning their current inclusion.
The letter warned that this situation has generated significant dissatisfaction within the party in Abia, potentially jeopardizing the APC’s future electoral prospects in the state. The stakeholders requested a review and correction of the list to ensure that only APC members are nominated, stressing the importance of rewarding party loyalty to foster the growth and success of the APC in Abia State.
The forum emphasized the need for party loyalty and political participation to be upheld, asserting that the current nominations could stifle the party’s growth while strengthening the opposition for future elections. They appealed to President Tinubu to rectify the nominations to prevent further discontent and ensure the party’s stability and success in Abia State.
