APC Crisis Gets Messier as Court Extends Tenure of Giadom as Acting Chairman for Two Weeks

The leadership crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC), got messier on Thursday as a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja gave an order empowering Victor Giadom to remain in office for another two weeks.

The exparte order granted by Justice Samira Umar of the Maitama division of the Court also empowered the Party’s National Vice Chairman (North East), Mustapha Salihu to act as National Secretary.

Salihu had through his counsel, Wole Afolabi, in an exparte motion marked FCTHC/M/6447/2020, prayed the court to grant an order “allowing Chief Victor Giadom to pilot the affairs of the party as acting national chairman and to preside at all meetings the National Executive Committee (NEC) pending the decision of NEC fixed for March 17, 2020, or any other subsequent adjourned date pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

In a swift reaction, Salihu dissociated himself from the order.

“My zone, the North East has already nominated Architect Waziri Bulama in the presence of the Senate President, APC governors from the zone and other party stakeholders as the acting National Secretary. I was at the meeting where this decision was reached. So, why would I now go back to obtain a court order to act as National Secretary?

“I was not part of such shenanigans. It is not in my character to play such dirty politics and I condemn in strong terms those behind the act. At a time like this when the party is going through trying times, it is such a time that all lovers of the party must pull together to keep the party together” he said.

The APC has been engulfed in leadership tussle following the Appeal Court judgement that upheld the suspension of the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole.
