APC Begins Moves to End Marginalization of Igbos, Says Ganduje
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, announced that the party has begun initiatives to end the marginalization of the Igbo community, aiming to enhance their influence in national politics.
During the APC South East zonal meeting in Abakaliki on Sunday, Ganduje highlighted the strong support the Igbos have shown for both the party and President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He emphasized the need to distinguish between perceived marginalization and the actual political performance of the southeast within the APC. The party, he said, is committed to breaking the cycle of marginalization.
Ganduje praised the recent appointments given to the southeast by President Tinubu, calling them “heartwarming,” and stressed the importance of unity and determination in supporting the party and the administration. He also commended Ebonyi for following Imo’s example in promoting APC activities, thanking Governor Francis Nwifuru for upholding the party’s values in the state.
“The challenge before us is to secure support in Anambra, Enugu, and Abia, and we must unite all stakeholders to achieve this goal,” Ganduje stated.
Governor Nwifuru expressed gratitude for the meeting, noting the party’s strong presence in Ebonyi and the southeast. He highlighted a policy of inclusiveness that has brought all state stakeholders under the APC umbrella. The recent defection of opposition members to the APC on July 13, he said, demonstrates the effectiveness of persuasion over conflict.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo acknowledged the difficulties faced by the APC in governing during a global economic downturn. He pointed out that the economic crisis affects many, with some currencies devaluing significantly. However, Uzodimma expressed hope that President Tinubu’s policies, if properly implemented, would provide relief to Nigerians.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, urged southeasterners to support federal efforts to end their marginalization. He praised President Tinubu for offering the Igbos significant positions, including high-ranking ministerial roles and the deputy speakership of the House of Representatives. Kalu also mentioned the progress of the South East Development Commission bill, which awaits the President’s approval and is expected to address many challenges faced by the Igbo community.
