Angry Youths Burn Down Bauchi Palace Following Clash Between Soldiers, PDP Supporters
In Bauchi State, tensions have escalated following the burning of the District Head’s palace in Lere town, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area. The incident occurred after a violent clash between military forces and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Lere.
The confrontation, which resulted in one death and six injuries, was reportedly triggered by a dispute between the PDP campaign team and the military. Eyewitnesses claim that Zaharedden Mohammed, a local resident injured during the military raid, suggested that the palace burning was a reaction to the district head’s perceived support for the military-imposed curfew.
According to Mohammed, the military used the curfew as a pretext to target specific individuals, leading to widespread unrest. In response, the enraged youths stormed the district head’s palace, setting it ablaze.
Another local, Alhaji Sule Abdullahi, confirmed the attack, stating, “On Wednesday, the angry youths gathered at the palace and set the buildings on fire.”
