ANAMBRA SECURITY: Barr. Peter Ekwueme Commends Governor Soludo for Improved Safety During Festive Season

Barrister Peter Ekwueme has commended Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for what he described as significant improvements in security across the state, particularly during the 2025 Christmas and New Year festivities.

In a public statement, Ekwueme praised the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed across Anambra State during the festive period, noting that residents and returnees from within Nigeria and the diaspora were able to move freely without fear. He described the development as a major departure from previous years when insecurity often overshadowed celebrations.

Ekwueme, a member of the opposition, emphasized that security should rise above partisan politics, stressing that genuine progress must be acknowledged irrespective of political affiliations. According to him, improved security is critical to economic growth, social stability, and restoring public confidence in governance.

He further encouraged the state government and security agencies to sustain and deepen the gains achieved, noting that consistency and community collaboration would be essential to making the progress permanent.

Below is the full statement issued by Barr. Peter Ekwueme:

ANAMBRA SECURITY

In a political climate often defined by sharp disagreements and partisan contestation, it is important to pause and acknowledge progress wherever it is genuinely made. Leadership, after all, must be assessed not only through the lens of party affiliation but by the tangible impact it has on the lives of the people.

In this spirit, I wish to openly commend His Excellency, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for the giant strides recorded in the area of security in Anambra State, particularly during the recent Christmas and New Year festivities.

The widely recorded testimonies of peace, safety, and tranquility across Anambra State during the mass return of Ndi Anambra from different parts of Nigeria and the diaspora mark a significant milestone. For many years, festive periods had been associated with fear, restricted movement, and anxiety. The fact that families travelled freely, social and economic activities thrived, and lives were celebrated without the usual cloud of insecurity is worthy of recognition.

Security is not a partisan issue. It affects everyone—traders, professionals, traditional institutions, youths, elders, indigenes, and visitors alike—regardless of political leaning. As members of the opposition, it is our duty to criticize objectively when necessary, but it is equally our responsibility to give kudos when performance demands it. Anything short of this would be unfair to the people we all claim to serve.

At the end of the day, every well-meaning political actor in Anambra State desires the same outcome: good governance and an improved quality of life for Ndi Anambra. Progress in security lays the foundation for economic growth, investment, social harmony, and collective confidence in the future of our state.

I therefore commend Governor Soludo and his security team for this exciting and refreshing achievement, and I encourage them to sustain and deepen these efforts. Consistency, inclusiveness, and community collaboration will be key to ensuring that this progress is not seasonal, but permanent.

Anambra works best when peace prevails.

God bless Anambra State.
