Anambra Police Arrest Prime Suspect in 2024 Beheading of 69-Year-Old Woman
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a key suspect in connection with the brutal murder and beheading of a 69-year-old woman, Mrs. Obianuju Akubi, which occurred in Umuleri in July 2024.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu apprehended the suspect, identified as Obadigbo Emmanuel Anumudu, 46, following credible intelligence. The arrest took place on October 4, 2025, in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
Anumudu had reportedly been on the run since July 22, 2024, after allegedly carrying out the gruesome act. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and provided details about other members of his gang who took part in the murder. He also revealed information about the whereabouts of the victim’s severed head, which was taken away after the incident.
The police spokesperson assured that **intensive efforts are ongoing** to track down and arrest the remaining suspects involved in the case, emphasizing the command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served.
“Further developments will be communicated in due course,” SP Ikenga added.
The Anambra State Police Command has urged members of the public to continue providing useful information that could aid investigations and promote community safety across the state.
