Police Arrest 63-Year-Old Woman for Child Trafficking in Anambra
The Anambra Police Command has arrested a 63-year-old woman, Ngozi Muotuanya, suspected of operating an interstate child trafficking syndicate.
According to Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson for Anambra, Muotuanya was apprehended on August 11, 2025, following credible intelligence. Initial investigations revealed that in 2024, the suspect allegedly kidnapped a one-year-old boy from Minna, Niger State, and sold him to a buyer in Anambra.
The child was later resold by Muotuanya to another individual, who, upon discovering the child had been stolen, returned him to the suspect on August 4, 2025. Subsequently, Muotuanya abandoned the child at an unknown church in Minna. The boy was rescued by the leader of the Igbo community in the area.
Police have shared the details of the child’s current guardian with the Niger State Command to facilitate his recovery and reunification with his family.
The suspect is set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation and prosecution.
