Anambra orders full Monday school resumption, warns of shutdown for defaulters
The Anambra State Government has directed all schools in the state to resume full academic activities on Mondays, warning that any school that fails to comply will be shut down.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced the directive on Thursday in Awka, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
She said a circular conveying the decision has already been issued to school authorities across the state.
The directive, issued on the instruction of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, applies to all public, private, mission, and returned schools.
“Any school that fails to resume activities on Mondays will face immediate closure,” Chuma-Udeh said.
The move is part of the state government’s efforts to end the disruption of public life caused by the Monday sit-at-home, which was initially declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in protest against the detention of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The Soludo administration has taken steps to halt the closure of schools, markets, and businesses linked to the sit-at-home order.
Recently, the government issued an Executive Order abolishing the closure of schools on Mondays and warned that teachers and non-teaching staff who fail to report for duty risk salary penalties, including the loss of up to 20 per cent of their pay or total forfeiture.
