Anambra CP Orders Detention of Three Officers Over Alleged Extortion of Resident After Phone Search
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the detention of three police inspectors accused of extorting a resident during a patrol. The officers allegedly stopped the individual, searched his phone without cause, and proceeded to extort money from him.
According to the state police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident occurred on Wednesday. He confirmed that the CP has directed immediate internal disciplinary action against the officers involved.
Commissioner Orutugu expressed strong disapproval over the conduct of the policemen, condemning what he described as unacceptable behavior that undermines public trust. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to discipline, transparency, responsibility, responsiveness, and accountability.
