Troops Arrest Chinese National in Borno During Counter-Terrorism Operations

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested several individuals suspected of aiding terrorist activities in Borno State, including a Chinese national who claimed to be a miner, according to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ).

Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed the development during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday. He said the arrest took place during coordinated military operations in Kukawa and Ngala local government areas. The operations targeted logistics suppliers and collaborators believed to be supporting terrorist groups in the region.

Kangye stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and level of involvement of the Chinese national, who is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.

“When the interrogation is completed, we will be able to furnish the public with the details of why he was there in the first place, how he was arrested, whether he was the only one there, or he had accomplices,” Kangye said.

He also reported that a significant number of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters—including men, women, and children—surrendered to the military between June 6 and June 11, following intensified operations across the state.

The military, Kangye added, is committed to protecting lives, ensuring national security, and upholding the rule of law. He reiterated the military’s dedication to transparency and its pledge to keep the public informed as operations continue across the country.
