Again, Gunmen Attack Vigilante Facility in Anambra, Kill One Operative
On Thursday, June 5, 2025, a violent attack shook the Umunze community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Armed gunmen launched a coordinated assault on a local vigilante facility, resulting in the tragic death of one vigilante operative.
The vigilante group targeted is believed to be part of the Agunechemba vigilante network, which was established earlier this year by the Anambra State Government to help maintain security and order in the region. Despite these efforts, the recent attack highlights the continuing security challenges faced by community-based security groups.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers struck in the early morning hours, overwhelming the vigilantes stationed at the facility. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but police have launched a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in an official statement, emphasizing that the police are actively pursuing leads. He urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation.
