Again, Gunmen Attack GIGM Bus in Kogi, Kidnap Passengers, Demand N100 Million Per Person
A GIGMobility bus traveling from Lagos to Abuja was ambushed on Saturday by gunmen in the Obajana area of Kogi State. The attackers abducted all passengers on board, leaving only the driver, who managed to escape.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred near the Dangote refinery in Obajana as the bus headed toward Lokoja. The vehicle’s windshields were reportedly destroyed during the attack.
One user on X, formerly Twitter, revealed that her friend was among the abducted passengers and that the kidnappers were demanding N100 million ransom per person for their release. In her plea for assistance, she explained that her friend was returning from a convocation in Benin Republic and urged the public to help raise funds for her release.
Another user who witnessed the incident recounted his close escape, attributing it to his car overheating, which delayed his journey. He described the aftermath of the ambush, noting that only the driver remained at the scene.
GIGMobility, the transport company involved, confirmed the incident in a statement shared online. The company expressed its distress over the situation, stating, “We understand the urgency and emotions surrounding this situation. Please know that we are also deeply affected by this incident, as well as other similar incidences.”
The authorities have yet to issue a statement regarding the attack, and the safety of the kidnapped passengers remains a pressing concern.
