AFCON: Davido, Peller Lose $50,000 and $3,000 Bets on Nigeria vs Morocco
Afrobeats singer Davido has lost a $50,000 wager after Nigeria failed to defeat Morocco in their African Cup of Nations semifinal on Wednesday.
The match ended 0–0 after regulation time, before Morocco secured a 4–2 win on penalties to eliminate the Super Eagles. Hours before kickoff, Davido shared a screenshot of his bet slip on social media, showing he had staked $50,000 on Nigeria to win the encounter.
The draw and subsequent penalty shootout defeat meant the singer’s bet did not succeed.
In a related development, Nigerian TikTok personality Peller also suffered a betting loss, forfeiting $3,000 after backing Nigeria to beat Morocco within 90 minutes.
Reacting during a livestream on Wednesday night, Peller expressed frustration over the outcome. He said Nigeria had performed well in earlier matches but failed to deliver after he placed his bet. He added that he might stop watching their games, suggesting the team’s results changed once he tuned in.
