ADC Coalition: Ortom Ally Resigns from PDP

By Arthur Maduka

David Olofu, a close political associate of former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and former Commissioner for Finance and Budget (2015–2023), has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His resignation was conveyed in a letter dated June 30 and addressed to the chairman of Edikwu Ward 2 in Apa Local Government Area.

Olofu, who also served as chairman of the Forum of State Commissioners for Finance in Nigeria from 2019 to 2023, stated that his decision was guided by a desire to exercise his constitutional right to freedom of association. He emphasized that his departure from the PDP was made in the interest of his ward, the Apa Local Government Area, Benue South Senatorial District, and Benue State at large.

“I write to inform you of my decision to resign as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from 30th June, 2025,” Olofu wrote. “This decision has become necessary as I move to exercise my right to freedom of association enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

A former senior technical adviser to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (2023–2024), Olofu is now leading a newly formed political coalition in Apa LGA under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), further signaling a shift in the local political landscape.
