Abia Governor Otti: “Money spent on non-existing airport,” Reveals Audit Findings
In a startling revelation, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has disclosed the results of an audit conducted on the state government’s accounts, indicating widespread misappropriation of funds during the previous administration. Otti, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, emphasized that significant amounts of money were squandered on projects that simply do not exist, notably the Abia Airport Project.
Speaking during an interactive session with constituents of Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Governor Otti expressed his dismay at the blatant misuse of public funds. He clarified that the forensic audit aimed to recover stolen government funds and was not intended as a witch-hunt.
“The report of the audit revealed that a lot of money was looted and stolen brazenly,” Otti stated, highlighting the absence of tangible projects despite substantial financial allocations. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to recovering the embezzled funds and ensuring accountability in governance.
“We are looking for our money, and we must find our money,” Otti declared, emphasizing the importance of fiscal responsibility and transparency in government operations. He warned that if the purported airport, among other missing projects, could not be located, those responsible would be obligated to refund the misappropriated funds.
Governor Otti also commended bipartisan cooperation, acknowledging the support of opposition party members in advancing the state’s development agenda. He praised the collaborative efforts of legislators and stakeholders, emphasizing the shared goal of fostering socioeconomic growth and improving the welfare of Abia citizens.
In response, constituents reaffirmed their commitment to Governor Otti’s administration, pledging unwavering support for his initiatives aimed at driving progress and prosperity across the state. Opposition figures echoed sentiments of solidarity, underscoring the importance of prioritizing developmental projects over partisan interests.
